--pixels (server commandline option) might be
ignored if on the specified console the number of
pixels:
- is greater than the maximum supported number
(ie. the maximum number will be used instead)
- cannot be set (fixed resolution); we could hack
this to allow lower values by blacking-out an edge
region (ie. we output a warning and use the
supported number of pixels)
The major change needed is a way to probe each
console for the maximum number of pixels
supported, to check before opening the console.
Alternatively, each console could output a warning
when it is opened, but IMO this is less desireable
(the warning code, etc. should not be duplicated
in each console).
Possible Extension:
-------------------
The maximum resolution may be impacted by the
presence of a titlebar, if running in a windowed
system (eg. X); if the size necessary for that can
also be determined, the actual maximum window size
should be smaller to account for that.

This is an M2 bug? When do we ever actually ignore
--pixels right now?

Nicholas: this is actually more of a 'meta-bug',
for saying that we need to probe for possible
pixel sizes before finally opening the console.
For example, if the display is full-screen-only
it might support 640x480 and that's it, perhaps.
Or the maximum supported pixel-resolution might
be 1024x768, and we try and open a console that
has a higher resolution.
Changing bug title accordingly, assuming there is
no task for this (I don't think I filed one ;).
If I'm wrong, please correct as appropriate :)
